Yeah, so in a comment on a facebook note I just made, I said that I don't keep a livejournal. This is only true in part, since I HADN'T kept a LJ in over a year, so I thought that maybe it was time to say "hi," and see how you've been. You missed me? Get outta town. It's not like I was that good of a poster anyway. Glad to see you're not dead, and I'll be back to say hello every once in a while.

What a shitty, stressful, exhausting weekend. I have nothing more to say about it but that I'm still up at 12:08. 5 more pages to write. Please, if you want to be nice to me, I encourage it. I'm so overwhelmed right now and I need some help.

[music |soundtrack to Finding Neverland]

So I spent my entire Saturday not doing anything, and it was horrible. I haven't felt this useless and unproductive in ages. On top of that, I slept really late. Katherine came and knocked on my door, but I didn't hear it because I was sleeping, so I feel really bad about that. Then tennis didn't get together, much to my dissatisfaction. I just felt like the only person who called me tonight was the only person who gave a damn.

I'm not usually so hyper-emotional, but I don't know. Nights when you sit around, waiting for the phone to ring and it never does, just bum me out big time. So, of course, the logical course of action was to watch Finding Neverland instead of something that might actually cheer me up (The Protector, in case you were wondering). I cried some, I won't lie. It's not that I'm ashamed at all, but it's not exactly a common thing, you know?

Maybe it's just all this stress finally getting to me. I've been under so much pressure lately and it's starting to chip at my overall demeanor. Between getting up so early every day, staying in shape, writing papers/studying Spanish, understanding my computer science homework (which is NOT coming along well at all), keeping in touch with friends (even the ones I see every day), marching band, and doing all the shit for IUCGC, I'm worn out.

I'm a hug kind of guy, fyi. Those cheer me up a lot.

Also, naps.

Anyway, glad everyone had a good time tonight. I'm going to sleep.

Kinda.

This weekend was nice. I don't really feel much like writing the whole story, so here's the abridged version.

Tennis, video games/whiskey, skateboard lessons at the skate park, video games, tennis, tennis, downloaded Clash, shivered with utter delight at Adagio for Strings...three times...then here. Hung out with a lot of people this weekend, but I still feel rested and happy. lol, life!

Enjoy every day to the best of your ability.

[music |Boxing - Ben Folds Five]

So here it is, Sunday, the LAST free Sunday of the summer. Well, for most of us, anyway. I had band camp starting last Tuesday night, going on through last night, Saturday night. To recap--

Tuesday night: 7-9pm was our first rehearsal, and it was pretty good. I got to see people from last year who I really liked, Jennifer Harrington, Ethan Cirmo, Tyler Fry, Derrick Wallace (who defected to the trombones, the turncoat!), and most of the tenor saxophones, as well as Carrie-Ann Garlisch. We saw some new faces in our section, too. Melissa Such-and-such, David Such-and-such, Annie Such-and-such, and Elton Jo. Elton is particularly interesting, but that's for later. We played through our music, and some of our selections this year include "Ridin'", by none other than Chamillionaire. Hot stuph. Anyway, Tuesdays are Tenor/Tone Tuesdays, that night included. T/T Tuesdays mean bowling or something, just so long as we get together and hang out. Last year, I don't think I even attended one. This year, things'll be different. I couldn't make it because of some extenuating circumstances, but I promised I would make it to this one, so I'll be busy this Tuesday night with that. I promised myself not to be so fucking antisocial this year with my section. That's what really did me in last year; lack of participation. I would stand by and watch as everyone else had fun and made jokes and stuff. This year, I'm going to really make an effort to be a part of the festivities. Anyway, back to the actual night...We played through music, laughed at Colonel, you know, the usual. Then we left for our respective destinations.

Wednesday: Band camp started Wednesday at 9am. I, of course, didn't set my clock correctly, and was late. I awoke at 8:40, and promptly freaked out because Wednesday was move-in day and traffic was going to be miserable, which sealed my fate.I got there as everyone was stretching...Oh well, after that, we did our morning stuff--marching practice till 10:45, then indoor music practice, then lunch. I got Moe's, and called up Jennifer to see if I could hang at her place for a bit, which I did. Her roommate, Jess, plays games! Guild Wars, among them. I hung out on the wonderful couch I helped move in (it's really comfortable) and relaxed because I was so tired from not sleeping. Back to band eventually, and afternoon sectionals. We did introductions and played a little, but I love sectionals just 'cause everyone's there, contributing wit and humor to the floor. Anyway, after sectionals, it was back to marching practice, then collective band marching block, followed by dinner. I honestly don't remember what I did for dinner that night (my memory has been failing me lately, ugh), but I'm almost sure Katherine was involved at one point. Sorry, Katherine, I really am, that I don't remember what happened that night. Anyway, back to band for evening practice, which we held outside. More work on stuff like marching, then concert arcs, then dismissal. Afterwards, I went over to Katherine's and had some delicious chocolate cheesecake. Yum! Called it a night shortly thereafter.

Thursday: Much of the same, sleeplessness included. I think I had lunch with Katherine that day too, at Panera. While I was waiting for that to happen, I decided to indulge in some new music. I went into Border's and bought the new Tom Petty album, Highway Companion. I really, really like it! It's some cool music that, as the title suggests, is good for driving. I also bought the best-of Ben Folds Five. I decided I couldn't really call myself a true fan until I owned more of his/their music. I, of course, love it. <3<3<3! More of the same, 'cept we all had to perform "the procedure," which was some little evaluation thing to make sure we could high step and play at the same time, more or less. One thing that made me laugh is that they do a posture check, which consists of the following questions: "Where are your HEELS? [TOGETHER!], STOMACHS? [IN!], SHOULDERS? [BACK!], CHINS [UP!], EYES? [WITH PRIDE!], EYES? [WITH PRIDE!], EYES? [WITH PRIDE!]. The trumpets are notorious for being cocky, so during the second "eyes," they respond with "AHHH!" in a squealy sort of way. Well, a few of us in my line decided it would be awesome to say "J.F.!" for the second "eyes." "J.F" stands for John Franklin, our metrosexually awesome associate instructor for low brass. Well, Ethan and I did it, but I don't know if anyone else did (some people were very much against it..). I thought it was awesome, so oh well. We got released for TIS night after performing the procedure, so I didn't eat hardly anything at dinner because I was expecting to be gorging myself on pizza later that night. TIS Bookstore has "Marching Hundred Night" every year, where the store is closed to everyone but us (but not really), and they give us free pizza, drinks, and t-shirts, as well as discounts on everything we buy. Ethan and I were joking about telling some of the rookies that there were free books too, haha. Anyway, after practice that night, I head back to my apartment and get my class schedule so I can buy books. Mount up, head over to TIS. I get there, what, 9:05? The pizza was there all of five minutes, evidently, before they ran out. THEY RAN OUT OF PIZZA. I was there over an hour and a half, and did not see a single fucking slice. So furious about that! Oh well, Katherine and I cheated the system (unbeknownst to us, hah). After my books were bought (Tyler Burke was behind the counter! YAY!), Katherine came and bought her books, too. I used my TIS rewards card and the cashier thought that I was the one buying books, so he rang her up with all the discounts and stuff, and gave her a T-Shirt. =]! After that, we hung out for a while, getting some real pizza from Mother Bear's and being tired together.

Friday: Morning practice, blah blah blah, toot toot toot, nothing really exceptional. I'm getting more and involved with the guys who play frisbee during breaks. They're starting to associate me with frisbee, so I get passed to and stuff, which = cool. That afternoon was the Spirit and Traditions pep rally for the incoming freshmeat, I mean freshmen. We had to do a bunch of stupid stuff for that, but we DID get one of the best receptions I've seen yet by the new class when we ran-on to the Assembly Hall floor to play for them. Coach Sampson walked by us and I said, "Welcome to Bloomington, coach!" I don't think he heard me, but whatevz. Ethan was tea-bagging nothing, oblivious to the fact that Sampson was behind him and needed to get through, hahaha. That was really funny, thinking about it. When we were out on the floor, Coach Hep gave a "Hep Talk," and "expected" everyone at "The Rock," Memorial Stadium, when they win 7 home games. Shhyeah, right. Anyway, after a long afternoon of that sort of stuff, we get dismissed and I go rest before hanging out with Katherine some that night. Yet another long day awaited me Saturday.

Saturday: Hey, I got some sleep Friday night, so I wasn't as exhausted as I was the previous days. Morning practice was held at Hundred Hall, where we worked on PRE-GAME! Good stuff, good stuff. I love pre-game, even when we're just learning it. The excitement is tangible every time. There really is a lot of pride that goes into what we do. After learning pre-game, the tones/tenors were to eat lunch together, but there was a communication error, so the tones ended up at Reed, and the saxes ended up at Wright. But...this is where Elton comes into play, more literarlly than intended. He spots a piano in the Reed area and gets really excited because it's a Baldwin baby-grand (same kind that Ben Folds prefers, coincidentally). We'd been joking about calling him "Rocket Man" or something to that extent because of his name's obvious resemblance to Elton John's. Well, we were more serious about it than ever after lunch because he just started pounding out melodies and stuff from "Let it Be," to "Benny and the Jets" to "Crocodile Rock." He was so into it, that we all just started singing out loud and when we decided it was time to find the tenors at wright, I told him there was an even bigger piano, to which his response was ecstatic. When we got there, we found the trombones were there too, so when Elton John started playing more, we ALL gathered around the piano and sang for the entire Wright dining hall. It was a lot of fun, and we all got really envious of Elton's evident musical prowess on many instruments. Haha, it was awesome. Then we broke to go practice for the section competition later that night at the Mellencamp Pavilion. Every year, 2 sections get paired together to prepare a short show, where we play something or do something amusing, but everyone has to perform the procedure at one point or another during it. Well, our show was kind of goofy, but I liked the idea anyway, which was to play music and mimic schools from around the Big 10 in order to honor J.F. for the fictional John Franklin Pants Parade. Well, we practice some that afternoon, then I get a break to rest, during which I hang with Katherine for a while. I go pick up Elton and meet the rest of the band at Mellencamp Pavilion, where we do our thing, watch others' shows, etc. Well, for the first time in 5 years, the baritones/tenors actually win, which was a bigger deal than I had wanted it to be, but it was pretty cool. We then got into marching block and went to the stadium to play for Hep and his team, which was also fun. Well, eventually we get a REAL free pizza party, which was fun. I talked to Andrew Davis who had signed up for band, but had to back out for school reasons just a week before band camp. Poo.

Well, annually, SOMEONE hosts what the band has come to call "The Buff." The Buff is a huge party at someone's house where the entire band (250 of us) is invited to come have a good time. Well, I didn't have anything to wear, and I'm not just being vain, I really didn't. So after my laundry gets done, I take a quickie shower and head over to say hello to everyone and let them know that I'm not antisocial. By then, most everyone was drunk or close to it, and it was ubercrowded, so I only stuck around for about an hour and then hit the road, soaked from the torrential downpour that night. Overall though, I'm glad I went. And that brings us to this morning. I slept till 12ish, mostly from sheer exhaustion. I've been writing this entry for about an hour now, and actually feel much better than I did beforehand. I woke up feeling extremely lonely and sad, but after having gotten my thoughts down on the webpage, I feel better. Thanks to those who took the 30 minutes to read this book, heh. Have a wonderful last Sunday of the summer.

I haven't written anything since my super-angsty freshman days, when I thought I was the shit. I don't necessarily regret the hiatus from creative work, but last night, I thought of something that had a nice ring to it. I can't sleep now, so I'm just gonna post it.

Reaffirm my superstitions,
Knit my dreams with premonitions,
Pave the way with intuition,
Purge the mind of its condition,
Guide your fate to its fruition,
See the meaning of your mission.

I don't care what anyone thinks about it, but I like it, and it might be the first of many new works. I'll probably add to it, and with some help from my friends, some music. Awesome!

Goodnight.

Burning rubber [Jul. 27th, 2006|12:49 pm]

[music |Yellow Brick Road - Elton John]

So, I'm dialing in on my Sanibel/Orlando vacation, which I think merits a long-absent update.

I have a sunburn! On my back! We left Thursday of last week, which was a muy stressful day; my brother (and mom) were slow and inefficient, so we missed our original flight for 12:20. However, with a little convincing, the AirTran people let us transfer our flight to one three hours later, which was okay, I guess. We got some mediochre airport lunch and headed south.

I read a lot on the plane, a lot on the ground, then a lot on the road, which means I read about 400 pages in a single day. A miracle by my standards. We got a mega-van for uber cheap and drove from Tampa to Orlando to visit my sister, Robin. She works at this AMAZING restaurant chain, Carraba's (it's a little pricey--$20.00/head, but WELL worth it), so when we got there, we were welcomed into a closed restaurant, where they gave us free bread and sangria, as well as soda for myself and the littluns. Then they gave us "samples" of entrees, so we were in food heaven.

Anyway, we hijacked Robin, got her some food, then drove 20 miles north to Clermont, where she lives. We all crashed there and watched home movies, played with her cats, and hung out with her boy, Chad, who rocks. Next day, we gathered our things, went to a local tiki bar for lunch, then headed south for Sanibel. It was like driving through the clouds themselves--weather down here is so tempremental; one minute, we'll be driving through a squall, the next, the sun will break through the clouds and we'll be on dry road.

It's too bad Jennifer was out of town, because we drove through Port Charlotte on our modified route through southwest Florida. All the while, I was reading, and almost finished the book before even getting to our destination. We finally arrive at beautiful Sanibel in a dusky setting, which only made things better. Crossed the bridge, got to our quarters, and went to dinner at the "Island Cow," which was extremely good.

The past few days have all been kinda hazy, because we just go to beaches, search for shells, and get sunburns. It's very relaxing, and I think it's just what my mind needed. Yesterday, I rode on a rental bicycle around some of the island, but it was blazing hot and I was getting pretty tired after about 45 minutes, so I turned around and went back.

I forgot to mention that there has been a red tide outbreak here. This is very bad for marine life because red tide is just algae that grows so thick and wildly that it chokes the water of oxygen and sunlight, so there have been a lot of dead fish washing ashore. This also contributes to the weak fishing experiences I've had (not a one yet). On the bright side, the dolphins that frequent the area are unaffected and have been pleasantly active during the times when I was on the fishing pier. I got some pictures of the dolphins, some big birds, some gators, and come next week, a giant mouse.

We leave tomorrow for Orlando and I'm very excited. I just wish I hadn't read so much the first day so I could have something to read on the way up there...

In any event, I DO miss being in Bloomington with my friends and the rest of my family, but I'll be back the sixth, so until then, I will see you on the intarnebs! Good day!

Oh, and I also forgot to mention...The entire island's restaurants serve Pepsi products and seem to have the same sound track, which is really funny and awesome. :)

I had a good day, despite not getting home till 11:45 and missing movies with my friends. I'm sorry I didn't make it back when I said I would. I accept full responsibility. Yeah.

Oh well, at least I made $68, which will probably disappear very quickly.

What really gets my goat is when people don't give things a chance. Just come once then decide what you think. Or don't and decide how things are. I really like the people from gaming club, and wish I didn't have to fight so many stereotypes just to get my friends to come. Even after all that, only two of my friends actually gave it a chance. I'll take offense if you label them no matter how many times you tell me not to, 'cause I'm one of them too. All I want is just to erase preconceived notions and ugly dogmas that prevent people from a possible good time.

My sister-in-law is 3 months pregnant, yay! I'm an uncle! It wasn't an April Fool's joke!

I'll be climbing more often, now that I know Mike (Creap, from gaming club) works at the gym. He's a really cool guy (DJs, climbs, games, you know). I was thinking of getting a 12-month membership. Can't really decide.

Whatever.

I'm posting like CRAZY these days! Zomg!

Anyway, so, what's the effin deal with this snow? I enjoyed the first couple of times, but this is just ridiculous. It should be warm enough for me to wear a grass skirt. Not that I normally do...that you know of.

Clearly disgruntled ^.

Bio was a huge waste of my 10 minutes, yet again. I wake up every Tuesday at 7:00 just to go to class at 8 for 10 minutes, only to be let out 40 minutes early. Yuck! Especially when I was wet and cold and grumpy. I thought I would just go back and curl up in bed for a couple more hours, but by that point, I was angrily awake enough (and just too wet, so I wouldn't want to put my shoes BACK on, gah!) that I didn't see much point in getting tired again. Soooo...I went back, got my lappy, and traveled the vast snowbanks back to the Union, where I remained for the few hours before bowling, which went prett well, I guess. League bowling soon, I'm psyched.

Aight. Lata, playas.

Ps...I couldn't resist. It's a good look!
